Dr. Peter L. Bishay, co-founder, advisor, and consultant. Dr. Bishay earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Aerospace Engineering Department at Cairo University in 2007 and 2010, respectively. He earned his PhD in mechanical and aerospace engineering from UCI in 2014. Since 2015 he has been an active faculty member in the mechanical engineering department at CSUN. Currently he is a full professor after two accelerated promotions in 2020 and 2024. At CSUN, he is the director of the Design SMART lab (Design of Smart Mechanical and Reconfigurable Technologies). He published over 50 research papers in reputable journals and conference proceedings spanning topics in computational mechanics, composite and smart structures, aerospace structures, prosthesis design and control, and engineering education. He founded two research-based senior design projects at CSUN, namely “Smart Morphing Wing” and “Smart Prosthetics,” and his research was supported by the US DoD, NASA, and NSF. He served as a technical reviewer for over 30 different journals in the last ten years. Dr. Bishay has credentials in effective college instruction from the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). He taught various undergraduate and graduate courses at four different universities in New Jersey, Washington, and California. Dr. Bishay is a recipient of multiple prestigious awards, such as the “Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award” (2017), the “Future Technology Leader Award” (2018), the “Distinguished Engineering Educator Achievement Award” (2022) from The Engineer's Council, the “Outstanding New Researcher Award” (2021), the “Highly Influential and Sustained Innovation Award” (2021), and the “CSUN Distinguished Teaching Award” (2024) from CSUN. He is named the 2025 Jerome Richfield Memorial Fellow at CSUN.
